Carl Otho Hardin, age 74, of Warsaw, Missouri and formerly of Bosworth, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2006, at Warsaw Health Care Center, Warsaw, Missouri.
He was born October 9, 1931 in Pattonsburg, Missouri, the son of James Harry Hardin and Calla Ithema Hardin. He attended Lock Springs Grade School and graduated from Ludlow High School. He was in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a farm laborer and had worked for F. M. Stamper Company for several years. Carl was a former member of the Rucker-McAlister American Legion Post in Brunswick, Missouri. He attended Baptist churches and was an avid hunter and fisherman, was well-read, loved to joke, loved children and was a poet.
Carl is survived by one son, Randy Hardin and wife Connie, Sweet Springs, Missouri, one daughter, Brenda M. Hardin, Kansas City, Missouri, his caregiver, Rosemary McMahan, one sister, Ruby Bignell, Nodaway, Iowa, five grandchildren, one great grandson, one step granddaughter, three step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, six brothers and three sisters preceded Carl in death.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at the Gibson Funeral Home in Bosworth, Missouri at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Wharton Cemetery, Bosworth, Missouri, with Military Graveside services provided by Rucker-McAlister American Legion Post, Brunswick, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 12-1:15 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home on Saturday.

James Curtis ( Coach “E”) Edmundson, 64, of Brunswick, MO died on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at the University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
He was born on October 17, 1941 at Elk Fork, MO the son of J. Lynn and Emma Pearl Curtis Edmundson. He graduated from Green Ridge High School at Green Ridge, MO in 1959 and in 1964 he graduated from Missouri Valley College at Marshall, MO. Jim was married to Carol Ann McKinney on August 3, 1969 at Morrisville, MO. Carol survives him at the home. Coach “E” retired in 1997 after teaching and coaching at the Brunswick High School for thirty-two years, where he had also been the Athletic Director and friend to all. He loved coaching any of the sports teams at the school. He was loyal to his Brunswick “Wildcats” and enjoyed being with his students and helping them with any concern that they had, on or off the court or field. He also loved to play golf anytime he could. He was a member of the Brunswick United Methodist Church, The Missouri State Teacher’s Association, the Community Teacher’s Association, The Missouri Valley V Club Alumni Association and The National Athletic Director’s Association. He is also survived by one son, James Tyler Edmundson and his wife Amanda of Alma, MO; one daughter, Cara Leigh Edmundson of the home; and one sister, Helen Thompson and her husband Larry of Belton, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 5, 2006 on the Jim Edmundson Court at the Brunswick High School in Brunswick, MO. Rev. Jan Schnepf and Rev. Lanny Lybarger officiated. Burial was in the Elliott Grove Cemetery at Brunswick, MO.  Pallbearers were Danny and Darrell Widhalm, Scott Richardson, Jamie Ker, Schuyler Manson and Andrew Reigelsberger. Norma Jean Clavin, 51, of Kansas City, MO and formerly of Brunswick, MO died on Monday, February 6, 2006 at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the Gibson Funeral Home in Brunswick, MO. Reverend Lanny Lybarger officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home on Saturday prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Hazel Ridge Cemetery at Brunswick, MO.  Norma was born on July 9, 1954 at DeWitt, MO the daughter of William Emmitt and Violet Kaiser Clavin. She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1972. Norma was a Slot Technician for Harrah’s Casino at Kansas City, MO. Prior to moving to Kansas City she had lived in Brunswick and had been employed by Conagra at Marshall, MO and Prenger’s Foods at Brunswick. Norma was a member of the Brunswick Christian Church. She is survived by three sisters, Sylvia Clavin of Brookfield, MO, Mary Ballew of Carrollton, MO and Leola Perkins of Salisbury, MO; two brothers, Don Clavin of Carrollton, MO and Orville “Bud” Clavin of Huntsville, MO and several nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her parents and one infant brother. Scott Dewayne Potter, age 37, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away February 7, 2006 in Sedalia, Missouri.
Scott was born September 6, 1968 in Carrollton, Missouri, the son of Robert Lee Hardwick and Patricia Lorene Potter.  He received his G.E.D. in Brookfield, Missouri.
On October 28, 1996 he married Sonya F. Carroll in Linneus, Missouri.  She resides at the home.
Scott was employed with Tyson Foods in Sedalia.  He was a Methodist.
In addition to his wife Sonya, Scott is also survived by five children, Stephanie, Nickie, Ashley, Robert and Chris, his father, Bob Hardwick, Odessa, Missouri, his mother, Pat Standley, Carrollton, Missouri, one brother, Jesse Gant, Richmond, Missouri, his grandfather, Robert Potter, Hale, Missouri, three grandchildren, Jesse Alan, Hayden Alan McCracken and Korbin Michael Swan.
One sister, Sheila Dawn Gant and his grandmother, Minnie Potter, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Rod McNeall officiating.  Burial will be in McCullough Cemetery, Triplett, Missouri.

Grace “LaVerne” Johnson Woods, age 90, of Carrollton, Missouri passed away Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton, Missouri.
LaVerne was born January 3, 1916 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to William Harrison and Susan Rasco Johnson.  She attended Poplar Bluff schools.  She was employed with the Butler County A.S.C.S. office for five years.
In 1940 she was married to Kenneth M. Woods.  They had two children, Hughes H. Woods and a daughter, Diana Susanne Woods who died in infancy.
She was a member of the First Christian Church since the age of 10 years.  She taught Sunday school classes many years.
Her son Hughes and wife Linda, Spring Grove, Illinois, three grandsons, Bryan and wife Michelle, Christopher and Michael, four nephews and one niece survive her.
LaVerne was also preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth and one brother, Cecil Johnson.
Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church, Carrollton, Missouri, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2006 with Reverend Joe Barone and Reverend John Johnson officiating.

G.B. Wright, 76, of Marshall, MO and formerly of Brunswick, MO died on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at the Fitzgibbon Hospital. Funeral services will be held at the Gibson Funeral Home in Brunswick, MO on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. Reverend Lanny Lybarger officiating. He was born on May 7, 1929 at Dover, MO the son of Amos E. and Margaret Cook Wright. He graduated from Brunswick, High School in 1949 and was married to Ruth Arlene Marquess on May 12, 1951 at Brunswick, MO. G.B. had worked for the Mid-Continent Telephone Corporation for thirty years before he retired as Vice-President. G.B. Was had been a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ohio, he had attended the Methodist Church and was a former member of the Brunswick Volunteer Fire Department.  He is survived by his wife Arlene of the home; one daughter, Tory Antonucci of Colorado Springs, CO; three sisters, Dorothy Darveau of Gardner, KS, Nina K. Skaggs Hensiek of Kansas City, MO and Betty Jane Straub of Marceline, MO; three brothers, Amos Wright, Jr. of Brunswick, MO, Jim Wright of Mound City, KS and Bud Hutchings also of Brunswick, MO; one grandson, Matthew B. Wright and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death his parents, one brother-in-law and one son, Kelly Aaron Wright.

Glenda “Sue” Hansel Vogelsmeier ,age 61,of  Carrollton, Missouri  passed away  Sunday, February 12, at her home.
Sue was born  April 14, 1944 in Carrollton, Missouri  to Glenn and Naomi Scholle Hansel.  She attended Carrollton Grade and  High  School.   She was a Receptionist and office manager for the Carrollton  Dental Clinic  since 1976.
She was a member of  the Immanuel Lutheran Church  of Carrollton, Missouri.
She is survived by  her parents and two sisters, Janet Jacobs and husband  Gary of Bosworth, Missouri.  Patsi  Miller and husband Tugger  of Carrollton, Missouri;  One  brother Larry Hansel , a close  friend  Jim Hinrichs of Chillicothe,  Missouri   A step-daughter  Janet  Lea Burmeister and  husband  Steve of Kansas City,  Missouri.  Two Nieces, Two Nephews  and Two Great Nieces and Four Great Nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter  Sandy Vogelsmeier on May 30, 1976;  a great  nephew Keith Wilson, and her grandparents, Carl and  Anna  Scholle and  William and  Sophia Hansel.

Betty Ruth DeWeese, 78, formerly of Brunswick, died on Sunday, February 12, 2006 in Phoenix, Arizona.  She was born on August 2, 1927 at the family farm just south of town to Otto and Erie (Smith) Susewind.  She attended grade school and high school in Brunswick.  Following her graduation in 1945, Betty continued to live and work in the area.  She was employed as a bookkeeper at the Kansas City Power & Light office in Brunswick for about three years.
Betty then decided to marry someone she had known since childhood, Harry DeWeese (also of Brunswick).  They were married on January 21, 1949 at Dalton, Missouri.  A few years later, the couple moved to Kansas City, Missouri.  In December 1956, they relocated to "sunny" Arizona.
Betty was primarily a homemaker after moving to Arizona.  She loved to garden and planted numerous trees at their home in Phoenix.  She will be remembered as a very kind and caring person; always willing to help someone in need.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years; two sons, David DeWeese and Gary DeWeese, both of Arizona; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, George Susewind of Aberdeen, Washington; and two sisters, Mary Helen Joseph of Brunswick, Missouri and Sandra Sue Bartels of Springfield, Missouri.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Kenneth Susewind of Carollton, Missouri.
Private graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2006 at the Elliott Grove Cemetery in Brunswick, Missouri.  Family and friends were invited to attend a celebration of life luncheon at Sherry's Home Cookin restaurant following interment.  Arrangements were handled by Gibson Funeral Home of Brunswick.

Earnest R. (Bobby) Hunt, age 74, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2006 at Carroll House.
Bobby was born January 26, 1932 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Earnest and Emma Stewart Hunt.
One sister, Betty Hunt, Shenandoah, Iowa and two nieces survive him.
His parents, one brother in infancy and one sister, Barbara Hunt preceded him in death.

Wendell Price Johnson, 68, of Brunswick, MO and a recent Chillicothe, MO resident died on Thursday, February 16, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He was born on October 15, 1937 at Triplett, MO the son of Desmond and Pocahontas Winn Johnson. Wendell graduated from the Dalton High School in 1955 and served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. Before his retirement he had worked fro the Donaldson Manufacturing Company in Chillicothe, MO as a press operator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Triplett, MO. He is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Winn and Shirley Burton both of Brunswick, MO; two brothers, Donald Johnson of Brunswick, MO and Herman Johnson of Triplett, MO; one aunt, Darline Botts of Chillicothe, MO; three cousins, Mary Dunlap of St. Louis, MO, Brenda Lemmie of Houston, TX and Mary Smith of Killean, TX; seven nieces, nine nephews and several great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends Wendell was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James and Clarence Johnson. Funeral services were held at the Gibson Funeral Home in Brunswick, MO on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. Reverend Donald White officiated. Burial was in the Brunswick City Cemetery. Billy Donald Smith, 72, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born March 5, 1933, in Waverly, Missouri, the son of Romey Emmett Smith and Cora Bell Hostetter Smith.
Bill grew up in the Waverly and Tina, Missouri area.  He attended Waverly grade school and graduated from Tina-Avalon High School.  He was a veteran of the United States Army.  He graduated from the United States Trade School in Kansas City, Missouri.
Billy married the love of his life, Evelyn D. Lancaster on September 28, 1958, who preceded him in death July 8, 1977.  He lived and raised his family in Carrollton, Missouri, where he had been a manager at J. C. Penney, a supervisor at Con Agra Foods and was retired as a Correctional Officer at the State of Missouri Correctional Center in Chillicothe.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Carrollton, Missouri.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Lee Smith, Carrollton, Missouri, two daughters and their husbands, James R. and Pamela J. Miller and Randy R. and Janet E. Sanders, both of Carrollton, four grandsons, all of Carrollton, Jeffrey L. Smith, Jr., Donald L. Smith, Thomas E. Heselton, Tyler D. Heselton, one granddaughter, Carol R. Smith, Waverly, Missouri, one great grandson, Dylan M. Smith, two great granddaughters, Cierra J. Smith and Savannah P. Smith, all of Waverly, Missouri, three step grandsons, John Reichers, Alvin Freeman, Bill Freeman and three step great grandsons, two sisters, Classie Warner, Bosworth, Missouri and Shirley Smith, Grand Pass, Missouri, two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Gilpin, Waverly, Missouri, Leroy Key, Waverly, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas Douglas Winfrey, age 92, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006 at his home.
He was born August 14, 1913 in Levasy, Missouri, the son of Charles M. and Myrtle Douglas Winfrey.  He graduated from Buckner High School.  He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.  He was a mechanic for Green Quarries and retired in 1978.  He was married to Dorothy Elliott in Topeka, Kansas and she preceded him in death in 1968.  He then married Margaret Schutz in December of 1968.  She also preceded him in death.  He was a member of Six Mile Baptist Church and attended the First Baptist Church of Carrollton.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Pence-Lovell-England Post #1773 in Carrollton.
Tom is survived by three sons, Delty Winfrey, Liberty, Missouri, Jerry Winfrey, Keller, Texas, Charles T. Winfrey, Columbia, Missouri, one daughter, Myrtle Chipley, Columbia, Missouri, eight grandchildren, Lanea Ritterling, Delty Winfrey, II, Becky Goodloe, Amy McCoy, Tara Kassuke, Jeri Ellen Winfrey, Chad Winfrey, Katie Winfrey and six great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2006 at Gilead Cemetery, Norborne, Missouri, with Reverend Jeff Maxwell officiating.  Veterans of Foreign Wars Pence-Lovell-England Post #1773, Carrollton, Missouri, will provide military services.
He will lie in state on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until service time at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.

Steven Shibley Ball, 51, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia, Missouri.
Steve was born July 17, 1954 in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Harry Edmond Ball, Jr. and Frances Anne Shibley Ball.  He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1972 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, in 1976.  Steve worked for Williams Pipeline Company, Tulsa, Oklahoma, for 23 years. He was recognized for his many contributions when he received an honor award from the University of Missouri for Distinguishing Service and Engineering. Steve was selected to complete the Executive Program for Management Development at Harvard University and had been the Senior Vice President and General Manager when he left The Williams Companies.  Steve was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, had earned the title of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, and had coached many youth sports.
Steve is survived by his daughter Kristin Leigh Ball, 22, of Dallas, Texas; his son Eric Haines Ball, 20, of Los Angeles, California; his brother Robert Ball and wife Colleen, of Leawood, Kansas; and his parents, Bud and Anne Ball, of Carrollton, Missouri.
His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Shibley and Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Ball, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, Carrollton, Missouri, with Reverend Jeff Maxwell officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m., until the service time on Saturday at the church.

Karen L. Bird, age 51, of Orlando, Florida, passed away Monday, February 20, 2006                     at her home.
Karen was born December 2, 1954 in San Francisco, California, the daughter of William A. Epley, Sr. and Dora Kathryn Brotherton Epley.  She attended Carrollton High School.
She married David Bird in Orlando, Florida on September 18, 1999.  He survives at the home.  Karen worked in Apartment Management.
In addition to her husband David, Karen is also survived by three daughters, Chris Cardenas, Carrollton, Missouri, Tonya Aldrich, Blue Springs, Missouri, Angie Roades, Satsuma, Florida, two brothers, Keith Epley, Billings, Montana, Tim Shields, Kansas City, Missouri, five sisters, Pamela K. Davis, Carrollton, Missouri, Patricia Milino, Dallas, Texas, Donna Gandhi, Warrensburg, Missouri, Joy Becker, Carrollton, Missouri, Sara Koechner, Liberty, Missouri and nine grandchildren.
Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.

Claire Elizabeth "Liz” Hardy Pemberton, age 98, of Mendon, M1ssoui, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2006 at Pershing Hospital, Brookfield, Missouri.
She was born December 20, 1907, the daughter of Dr. John Walter and Florence Robinson Hardy. She had one brother, Dr. John Walter Hardy, Joplin, Missouri, born 1905. One sister, Helen Harlan, Clarinda, Iowa, born 1912. All deceased.
After graduating from Sumner High School, and attending Christian College, Columbia, Missouri, Liz married Dr. Charles William Pemberton August 30, 1930.  He preceded her in death November 30, 1987.  She was a housewife and homemaker, a member of the Mendon Methodist Church, PEO Chapter AG and the Tourist Club of Brookfield. She had been a member of the Junior League of Butte, Montana.
She is survived by her son, Dr. John Walker Pemberton, Omaha, Nebraska, one granddaughter, Letitia Devlin, Singapore; three grandsons, Jeffrey Walker Pemberton, Denver, Colorado, James Tilford Pemberton, New York, New York, and John Low Pemberton, Washington, D.C., and six great grandchildren.
There will be a private burial. A memorial serv1ce wlll be held at a later date.

Archie Lee Newman, age 84, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Monday, February 27, 2006 at Carrollton Life Care Center.
Archie was born to Ord Clede and Ruth Eliza Tomlin Newman on September 27, 1921 at home in the Trotter Township. Dr. D. G. Atwood was the attending physician.  Archie attended 1st grade at a 2-room Trotter schoolhouse.  Second through eighth grade were spent at the Reynolds school in Carrollton. Grades ninth through twelve were spent at Carrollton High School, where Archie graduated in 1939.
Archie and his older brother, Floyd Ely Newman ran a Texaco filling station in 1939 and 1940. Also during this time, Archie worked as a hedge fence post cutter.  Archie also worked at the Brockmeier Oil Co.  Archie was reunited with his brother Floyd in California and found work as a machinist.  Archie and Martha Ruth Riggins were married on March 15, 1942 at Cupid’s Corner in Yuma Arizona.  She preceded him in death on April 18, 1995.  He was in the 62nd Battalion of the US Naval Seabees.  Archie attended Missouri Valley College and graduated in the spring of 1949 with a degree in business administration.  He owned and operated Newman Insulating Co.  In 1953, Archie began his teaching career at Bogard, Missouri until Bogard School District consolidated with Carrollton and taught the 1979-1980 school years at Carrollton.  Archie was a member of the Carrollton Church of Christ and served as an elder. He had served as a civil defense officer and farmed.  He was an avid reader and loved to travel.
Archie married Myrtle Olivene Harper on August 9th, 1997 at the Carrollton Church of Christ in Carrollton.  She preceded him in death on July 24, 2004.
He is survived by four children, James Eugene Newman, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Thomas Lloyd Newman, Carrollton, Missouri, Sharon Jane Purdy, Cole Camp, Missouri, Debra Kay Newman, Bonner Springs, Kansas, one brother, Floyd Newman, Carrollton, Missouri, six grandchildren, Shawn Newman, Angel Newman, Kerry Branchcomb, Bruce Saltsgaver, Lesia Smith, Libby Lorenz and twelve great grandchildren.
His parents also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with Evangelist Rick Sparks officiating.  Burial will be in Trotter Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri with Military services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Pence-Lovell-England Post #1773, Carrollton, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m., until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

On February 28th, surrounded by her loving family, Beverly A. Stanford left the betters of this world behind and joined her Heavenly Father. Bev touched lives across the United States and no one remained a stranger long after meeting her.  Her granddaughters remember her as the funniest woman they knew.  Her friends will remember her sense of caring, sense of humor, love for life, her home in Estes Park, CO., being the oldest child of James and Irene Anderson and touching lives in A.A. and at Harmony of Estes Park.
Bev was born in 1935 in Zion, IL and moved to Carrolton, MO as a youth.  She graduated from Carrolton High School and obtained a floral degree from Chicago.  She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority at the University of Missouri and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Estes Park, CO.  Bev married David H. Stanford in 1956 who preceded her in death in 1995.  She was the proud mother of two sons: Dwight D. Stanford MD of Leawood, KS and James H. Stanford MD of Chesterfield, MO.
She leaves behind her loving friend and daughter-in-law Kim; her granddaughters: Michelle, Allison, Lauren, and Ashley; her two grandsons: Torrin Stanford and Christopher Moore, and her faithful dog Muffin.  She also leaves her sister Jarene Stanford, her brother Bruce Anderson and her California “daughter” Lorie Johansen. Our Worthy Mother, Grandmother, and Friend will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the First Christian Church, Carrollton, Missouri, with Reverend Joe Barone officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m., until service time on Saturday at the church.  The family would appreciate donations be made to Estes Park Medical Club, Harmony, Carrollton Public Library or the First Christian Church of Carrollton in memory of Beverly.  They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S.
