Florence E. Bales, age 102, of Stet, Missouri
passed away Sunday, October 6, 2002 at the Golden Age Nursing Home, Braymer,
Missouri.
She was born October 4, 1900 in Stet, Missouri the daughter of Charles
Daniel and Fannie Susan Brock Miller. She attended Prairie Flower
School and Stet High School.
She married Ray Granville Bales on February 22, 1920. He preceded
her in death on May 2, 1988.
She was a member of the Bethany Church of the Brethren in Stet, Missouri
and the Stet Homemakers Extension Club. She was an Assistant Post
Master in Stet, Missouri; and with her husband, had owned and operated
the B. G. Bales & Son Hardware and Grocery Store in Stet, Missouri
from 1942 to 1975.
She is survived by one son, Ray Bales, Stet, Missouri; one daughter,
Wanetta Reeves, Stet, Missouri; one brother, Azzle Miller, Chillicothe,
Missouri; two sisters, Ruth Warren, Carrollton, Missouri, Frances Myers,
Norborne, Missouri; eight grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren;
twenty-four great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Eldred Bales; one sister,
Catherine Paul; and three brothers, John, Leo, and Bill.
Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at the
Bethany Church of the Brethren, Stet, Missouri with Reverend Harold Hosler
officiating. Burial was in Wakenda Cemetery, Hardin, Missouri.
Visitation was from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at
Gibson Funeral Home, Norborne, Missouri.

Ruth Annetta McMillian, age 89, a Waverly,
Missouri resident, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2002 at John Knox
Village Care Center, Lee's Summit, Missouri.
She was born December 21, 1912 in Carroll County, Missouri, near Sugar
Tree, the daughter of Claude W. and Margaret Loney Mayden. She attended
schools in Waverly, Missouri.
She married Hubert G. (Shorty) McMillian on January 15, 1929 in Lexington,
Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 4, 1975. She
was a housewife and mother. She was a member of the First Baptist
Church, Waverly, Missouri; a member for over 50 years with the Order of
the Eastern Star Chapter #248 in Lexington, Missouri; Order of the White
Shrine of Jerusalem; and the Don Avise Memorial #6272 Veterans of
Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Lake Lotawana, Missouri.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Ruth Anna Chedotte, Torrance, California,
L. Maxine Doile, Lake Lotawana, Missouri; five grandchildren; one step
grandson; nine great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; one
great great grandchild and two step great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Raymond.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 14, 2002 at
the Gibson Funeral Home, Waverly, Missouri with Reverend Ryan Bowman officiating.
Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 4-6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 13, 2002 at the
funeral home with the OES and Auxiliary Service at 5:30 p.m.

Ben Davis, age 97, of Brunswick, Missouri passed away October 14, 2002 at Brunswick Nursing Home, Brunswick, Missouri. He was born May 27, 1905 in Chariton County, Missouri the son of George W. and Surrilda White Davis. On April 13, 1932 he married Della Mayhugh in Chillicothe, Missouri. He worked in heavy construction for J.C. Myers Construction of Warrensburg, Missouri. He was a member of the Brunswick Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the International Union of Operations Engineers 101. He is survived by his wife, Della; one son, Donald Lee Davis, Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Rose Mary Lawson, Keytesville, Missouri, Eva Miller, Paris, Missouri; twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters, one great grandson, Benjamin Lee Davis on April 22, 1997. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 17, 2002 at Gibson Funeral Home, Brunswick, Missouri with Reverend Lanny Lybarger officiating. Burial will be in Brunswick City Cemetery, Brunswick, Missouri. Visitation will be from 12:30 until service time. Mary Frances Kilburn, age 78, of Carrollton,
Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2002 at the Living Center, Fitzgibbon
Hospital, Marshall, Missouri.
She was born January 30, 1924 in Avalon, Missouri the daughter of Lester
and Minnie M. Jones Farr. She attended Avalon and Sumner Schools.
On December 23, 1959 she married Carl L. Kilburn in Chillicothe, Missouri.
He preceded her in death on May 16, 1981. Mary was a housewife and
mother; and lived most of her life in the Chillicothe and Carrollton area.
She is survived by one daughter, Janese M. Timmons, Meadville, Missouri;
two sons, Eugene F. Kilburn, Chillicothe, Missouri and Fred W. Kilburn,
Carrollton, Missouri; one brother, Wayne Farr, Marshall, Missouri; two
sisters, Elfreeda Payton, Desota, Kansas, Doris Linscott, Chillicothe,
Missouri; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Nina Marie
Farr and Monzelle Frakes.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2002
at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Larry Reeter
officiating. Burial will be in Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Missouri.

Rory John Kuhn, age 50, of Miami, Florida passed away Thursday, October 17, 2002 in Palmetto General Hospital, Miami, Florida, after a short illness. Rory was born August 9, 1952 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Lois Jean Winfrey and Jerry Neal Kuhn. He completed his Kindergarten through twelfth grade education in the University of Iowa Experimental School graduating in May, 1970. He earned eleven major letters, for in swimming, three in football and four in band. He was named to the All Iowa City and State of Iowa swim teams in 1970. He earned his Boy Scouts of America God and Country Award in 1967 and his Eagle Scout Award in 1968. He joined the First United Methodist Church of Iowa City during this same time period. He completed his B.A. with a major in Elementary Education and minors in mathematics and general science for the University of Iowa in May, 1974. His degree was granted with special honors and distinction. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa professional honors society and Phi Eta Sigma academic honors society. After a year of public school teaching he received an administrative assistantship and returned to the University of Iowa to complete a M.A. in School Administration and Remedial Reading in July, 1976. For the next nine years he taught in the Wilton, Iowa public schools. On June 8, 1985, he married Merlissa Howard Matthews. Together they decided, with the encouragement of Dr. Solomon C. Stinson, then Associate Superintendent of the Dade County, Florida Public Schools, to try urban school teaching. Rory taught sixteen years in Hialeah Elementary School, Miami, Florida and was in the classroom there when struck with his final illness. Survivors include his wife, Merlissa, one son, Nathan Neal, one daughter, Bonnie Jean, all of the home; his parents, Jean and Jerry of Iowa City, Iowa; one brother, Robbie Neal of Iowa City, Iowa; three step sons, Raymond Scot Matthews of Miami, Florida, Robert Paul Matthews of Muscatine, Iowa, and Randy Allen Matthews of New Ulm, Minnesota; an aunt, Dorothy Lucile Beck of Kansas City, Missouri; two uncles, Charles Gastel Kuhn of Carrollton, Missouri, and Willis Virgil Winfrey of Farmerville, Louisiana; and seven cousins with many other extended family members. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at the Gibson Funeral Home, Bosworth, Missouri with Fred Seba officiating. Mary Lou Wolf, age 75, of Carrollton, Missouri
passed away Thursday, October, 24, 2002 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital,
Carrollton, Missouri.
She was born March 20, 1927 in Kingston, Missouri the daughter of Earl
and Mary Silvius Virtue. She attended Kingston grade and high school
and graduated from the Kansas City Business College.
On August 21, 1947 she married William L. Wolf at the First Christian
Church, Gallatin, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 14,
1999. She was employed with the Carroll County Courthouse, Farm Bureau,
and was a loan officer with the Brookfield Production Credit Association
from 1959 until her retirement in 1986, after twenty-seven years.
She then worked for First National Bank and Houseworth Printing.
Mary Lou was a member of the United Methodist Church of Carrollton, Missouri,
where she served on several boards; BPW, Forum Club, Historical Society
and Beta Sigma Phi. She was a volunteer at Carrollton Nursing Center.
She is survived by one daughter, Cheri Sweeney and husband, Dan, Carrollton,
Missouri; one son, Bill Wolf, Kansas City, Kansas; one sister, Kathryn
Davies, Independence, Missouri; two grandchildren, Brian Sweeney and wife,
Kelly, Carrollton, Missouri, Carri Hutchinson and husband Brian, Carrollton,
Missouri; two great grandchildren, Dakota and Cierra Sweeney, Carrollton,
Missouri.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 28, 2002
at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Sandra Crater
and Reverend Joe Barone officiating. Burial will be in Carroll Memory
Gardens, Carrollton, Missouri.

Versaille E. Douglas, age 75, of Carrollton,
Missouri passed away Thursday, October 31, 2002 at Morningside Center,
Chillicothe, Missouri.
He was born December 29, 1926 in Carrollton, Missouri the son of Calvin,
Sr. and Elvenia Carter Douglas. He attended Carrollton Schools.
He retired from the Salvation Army in Chicago, Illinois.
He is survived by two sisters, LaVerna Williams, Chillicothe, Missouri,
Ruth Shaw, Kansas City, Missouri; one brother, Calvin Douglas, Jr. and
wife, Wanda, Kansas City, Missouri; one aunt, Mary McCoy; one uncle, John
Miles, Carrollton, Missouri; and a host of cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2002 at Gibson
Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Herbert Roberson officiating.
Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri.
