The Msgr. Emmett Summers Scholarship applications are now being taken until March 28, 2008, at St. Mary’s Parish.  Please pick up a copy of the guidelines for qualification along with a scholarship application on the table in back of church if you would like to apply for a scholarship.

Each Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., the Prayer Group at St. Mary’s meets in the Chapel in Tally Hall.  If you would like to attend, they would love to have you join them.

CCD classes for pre-school through grade 8 are held each Wednesday evening from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  Mass in church at 6:30 p.m. for parents of CCD students.   Teachers, if you have had new pupils that were not enrolled at the beginning of the school year, please notify the Parish Office with the names of the new pupils and their parents names and phone numbers so that we may have an accurate listing of each class.  Thank you.

Confirmation Class at St. Mary’s will be Wednesday evening, March 19, 2008, at 6:30 p.m.

CCD classes at Sacred Heart each Sunday at 9:00 a.m.  There will be no classes on Easter Sunday.

Good Friday, March 21, 2008, is a day of fast and abstinence.  All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.  Fast binds all those 18 to 59 years of age.  On days of fast, one full meal is allowed.  Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal.  Eating between meals is not permitted; liquids are allowed.  Abstinence binds all those over the age of 14.  On a day of abstinence no meat is allowed.  “No one should lightly excuse themselves” from the laudatory practice of fast and abstinence during the Lenten season.

St. Mary’s Parish Council will meet Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at 7:30 p.m.  Please not:  This is a date change.

There will not be a Parish Council meeting in March at Sacred Heart.

The Institute for Pastoral Theology (IPT) at Ave Maria University is accepting applications for the Master of Theological Studies degree program that will be offered in our diocese beginning in August, 2008.  Classes will be held at the Franciscan Prayer Center in Independence, MO.  The IPT is highly regarded as a program that is based on Sacred Scripture, Vatican II, the classics of Catholic spirituality, documents on the liturgy, and the writings of Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI.  Classes meet one weekend per month, ten months each year.  For further information, please call the IPT toll-free at 866-866-1100 or e-mail at ipt@avemaria.edu or visit the web site at www.ipt.avemaria.edu.  Apply before April 1, 2008.

Anyone wishing to contribute towards having memorial flowers on the altar at St. Mary’s should contact Beverly at Lauren Claire, 542-3477, or Ann Campbell, 542-0234.  The Altar Society will provide flowers two weeks of each month.  If you have questions, please call either of the above numbers.  Thank you.

Please remember that contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Msgr. Summers Scholarship Fund at any time during the year.  You may drop them in the offering baskets marked for “Scholarship Fund”, or stop by the Parish Office during the business hours.

Please continue to save Best Choice UPC labels and put them in the container in the vestibule of the church.  Proceeds from the UPC labels are a fund raiser for the St. Anne’s Altar Society.  If you have any questions, please contact Judy Adams, who is in charge of the project.  Thanks!

Please remember when you can not serve as a Mass Assistant on the day you have been scheduled, it is your responsibility to find someone to take your place.  Thank you!

If you have items of interest for the bulletin or would like a Mass said, please call the Parish Office with your need instead of telling Fr. or Cheryl in other places besides church or the Parish Office.  If that is not handy for you, please give them your request in writing so that it will not be forgotten when they return to the Parish Office.  If you have money, please put it in an envelope and designate what it is for.  Thank you.

On the Lighter Side...

MISSOURI POEM:

It’s winter in Missouri                                   Oh, how I love Missouri                                            Yes, the weather here is wonderful,

And the gentle breezes blow—                     When the snow’s up to your neck!                          So I guess I’ll hang around

Fifty miles an hour                                        You take a breath of winter                                     I could never leave Missouri

At twenty-five below.                                    And your nose gets frozen shut.                              ‘Cause I’m frozen to the ground!!!!!
